Qurbani is the establishment of intimacy with Allah. It is a prayer that reminds us of the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim, the devotion of Prophet Ismail (a.s) and the consent of Hz. Hacer. Besides that, it is a prayer that is being performed with wealth just as the Zakat, it is also one of the most important indicators of social solidarity and benevolence.
Basically, the days of Aid el-Adha are not about the meat and blood, but the taqwa and devotion. Allah notifies us through the following versicle of the Quran that the main purpose of the qurbani is neither carving nor shedding blood, instead of getting the taqwa through the following versicle of the Quran:
“Neither their meat nor blood reaches Allah. Rather, it is your piety that reaches Him.“
(Surah Al-Hajj 22/37)
